Based in Shanghai, China, Andy is a seasoned China/Asia business veteran with in depth experience in general management, business development, start-up operations, supply chain establishment, and sales and marketing with two established multinational firms and two green field start-ups. Andy started his China practice in 1985 for TRW Corporation as its first representative in Tianjin, China.

Throughout his fifteen year tenure with increased responsibilities, Andy had guided the company in consummating at least five technology transfers, four joint venture/wholly own venture establishments, and launched a few major programs in Asia. Andy left the career at TRW as VP of Greater China in 2001, moved on to a start up company Astrolink as its Asia VP to develop a global constellation of satellites for data transmission. Andy is currently the General Manager of VTEC Asia, an automotive supplier based in Detroit MI. A bi-lingual Chinese American with MSME from University of Southern California and EMBA from Rutgers University, Andy served on boards of American Chamber of Commerce in both Beijing and Taipei for a period of 8 years (1994-2002).

He now resides in Shanghai, China.

 

 

michael byrnes

Mr. Byrnes has more than two decades of direct experience in China. He was most recently the China President for Tyco International China, where he was responsible for establishing Tyco’s corporate presence in China and promoting Tyco’s diverse business interests in the growing China market. Tyco is the largest American company in China with 32,000 employees and more than 40 operational units.

Before joining Tyco, he worked at Rockwell Automation as Vice President for China Operations. In this role he reported directly to the President and COO of Rockwell Automation and was responsible for all of Rockwell Automation operations in China. While at Rockwell, Mr. Byrnes implemented a comprehensive government relations plan at the national, provincial and municipal levels that focused on enhancing influence, administrative and organizational facilitation and regulatory monitoring and shaping. Mr. Byrnes was also directly involved in establishing Rockwell’s R&D center, several manufacturing facilities, a logistics center and the International Procurement Office in Shanghai.

Before working at Rockwell, Mr. Byrnes served 30 years as an officer in the United States Army, rising to Major General. His experience in Asia included working as a military attaché to the U.S. Consulate in Hong Kong and culminated as the U.S. Defense Attaché at both the U.S. Embassy in Beijing and Ulaanbaatar.

Mr. Byrnes holds a Master of Arts degree in strategy and operations from the Navy War College, as well as a Master of Arts degree in Asian studies/international relations from the University of New Hampshire.

Mr. Byrnes speaks and reads Mandarin Chinese.

In China, André has designed and facilitated programs for Fortune 500 companies, including GE, Swire Coca-Cola, Schneider Electric and EF.  André was the Managing Director at HCD Global in Shanghai, a consulting firm focusing on strategic marketing and HR management learning & development for MNCs and leading local companies. Prior to coming to China, André was a manager with PricewaterhouseCoopers Financial Advisory Services in San Francisco, where he focused on project management in the Intellectual Property and Economic Analysis groups. Previous experiences also include positions with McKinsey & Co., American International Group and a subsidiary of Zurich Financial Services.

André is a native of Switzerland and speaks five languages. In his spare time he enjoys oenology, traveling, skiing and scuba diving.

 

 

farzam kamalabadi

Based in Shanghai, China, Farzam Kamalabadi, a Persian American, born and raised in Iran, educated in Boston, now residing in Shanghai China for over a decade, is one of the very few personalities widely acclaimed both by the Chinese media and also recognized by the China government leadership at large as a true "China Hand" and a leading authority on China.

Kamalabadi reads and writes Chinese, including writing quality brush calligraphy and composing articles and papers on Chinese ancient philosophy. Moreover, he speaks mandarin as well as a number of other dialects such as Cantonese and Shanghainese.

Before the end of the Millennium, Kamalabadi had visited over 400 cities covering virtually every single province of China. philip muus

Is a Dutch human geographer by training, and is an expert in Migration- and Cross-Cultural Studies. Worked since 1981 at Dutch Universities (predominantly at Amsterdam University and Utrecht University), is since 2001 working at Malmö University, Sweden. Philip published widely on international migration and migration related issues. He did commissioned research for among others the OECD, EU, ILO, UN, UNHCR and national governments.

At Utrecht University he was the managing director of the European Research Center on Migration and Ethnic Relations (ERCOMER). At Malmö he is Associate Professor at the Department of International Migration and Ethnic Relations (IMER) at the Faculty of Culture and Society. Since 1 September he is on Leave of Absence from his job as Associate Professor and Head of Department of IMER at Malmö University.

Philip Muus is currently based in Shanghai. Here his main professional interest is in the area of Cross-Cultural Encounters in Business Environments, next to a growing interest in Contemporary Chinese Art.

Philip Muus speaks next to his native tongue several languages: English, French, German, and Swedish, and has a basic working knowledge of Spanish and Egyptian Arabic. He recently took up the study of Mandarin Chinese.

Dt Ogilvie is Associate Professor of Business Strategy at Rutgers Business School-Newark and New Brunswick, Director of The Center for Urban Entrepreneurship & Economic Development, and was previously Associate Provost of Information Technology Strategy and CIO at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey - Newark. She is also Professeur Associe Invite de Gestion Strategique a l'Universite de Reims, Champagne-Ardennes, France, where she is a Fellow of EUROP (Equipe Universitaire de Recherche sur les Organisations et leurs Performances) a Reims. Dr. ogilvie is a Sam M. Walton Free Enterprise Fellow, an Institute for Research on Women Funded Faculty Fellow, a GE Teaching Fellow, a Fellow of the Center for Women and Work, a School of Business Fellow, and a Fellow of the Institute for the Study of Coherence and Emergence.

She earned her Ph.D. in Strategic Management from The University of Texas at Austin, her MBA in Strategic Management and International Strategic Management from the Executive MBA Program at Southern Methodist University, her BA in Sociology from Oberlin College, and attended The Wharton School of Business at The University of Pennsylvania. Dr. ogilvie earned certificates in Advanced Marketing from The University of Texas at Austin and in Non Linear Systems from the Inter University Consortium for Political and Social Research at The University of Michigan, where she was a Visiting Scholar in the summer of 1993. She earned a certificate from the Management Development Program at Harvard University in 2004 and a certificate in The Art & Craft of Discussion Leadership from Harvard Business School in 2008.

Dr. Dt Ogilvie research interests include executive leadership strategies of multicultural women executives; women in the executive suite; strategic decision making and the use of creativity to enhance business and battlefield decision making, and applying complexity theory to strategy and creativity; assessing environmental dimensions; strategic thinking in the 21st century; economic development of the inner-city; e-commerce business models; effective communication for women in business; and technology transfer and countertrade issues in the People's Republic of China.

Prior to her academic career, Dr. Dt Ogilvie had over 13 years experience in the corporate world. She was Business Planning Manager/Strategic Planning at The Southland Corporation, where she previously served as Information Systems Planning Manager, Franchise Planning Analyst, and ran multimillion dollar profit centers. She managed and ran two turnaround situations before joining Southland. Prior to that, Dr. ogilvie owned a small jewelry manufacturing business. She provides consulting services for public agencies and businesses, including Fortune 50 firms and the US Army; her work with the Army on battlefield decision making for 21st century Army is based on her model of creative action based strategic decision making. She has spoken at national and international academic conferences, business meetings of major companies, the 1997 Christine Todd Whitman Governor’s Conference on Women, the London office of Ernst and Young, the Work/Life Leadership Council of the Conference Board, among others. She attended the 49th National Security Forum at the Air War College, at the invitation of the Secretary of the Air Force, to discuss national security issues.

His sales career began in 1977 when he adopted the sales role for the scientific instrumentation company who employed him as an electronics engineer.
From 1979, he spent five years implementing and developing sales campaigns for the top UK Intel components' distributor, Rapid Recall. Rapid were the premier UK Intel product distributor of the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. In the role of field sales engineer, he achieved 125% and 142% of target before accepting promotion into a product-marketing position. Responsible first for the Intel component products, then later for the Intel systems products, he continued to trounce multi million pound targets.

In the mid 1980’s, as companies began to use personal computers, he joined PC reseller, Quest, to help make the new technology solve business problems. In 1984, he won a place on the IBM study tour in Florida
